This 1000mm gauge system dates back to 1895, when the Stargard Szcz. - Stara Dabrowa - Insko section opened. In 1896 the Gryfice - Niechorze section opened, and this was extended to Trzebiatow in 1913. The Gryfice - Golczewo Pom. - Stepnica section was built in 1901-1903.

In 1959 the system was as follows:

In 1989 the system had 461km of track, carrying 700,221 passengers and 349,932 tons of freight. In 1995 the system was recorded as being 460.8km, of which 350.7km was operational, but by 1996 this had dropped to 440.1km and 335.7km respectively.

In 1998 only 3 sections had regular passenger service:

This line is operated by Lxd2 diesels, MBxd2 railcars and Px48 steam locomotiveGryfice Wask. - Rewal - Niechorze - Trzebiatów Wask. (55 km)

During summer there are up to 14 pairs of trains daily at this section. Special tourist train "Ciuchcia retro-express" powered by Px48 on weekends. After the summer vacation, only 3 pairs daily.

There is a museum at Gryfice, established in 1978, which has 12 steam locomotives and a variety of other stock. The more detailed information you can find at Jacek Raczkowski pages - here.

In September 2001 all traffic at the mentioned lines were closed by the PKP - the Polish national railway operator decided to erase all narrow gauge railways. Now the future of the railway depends on local authorities decision to take over the traffic.
